Get Help Now! UAP is an abbreviation of unidentified aerial phenomenon or phenomena , a term that refers to things observed in the sky that cannot be identified as aircraft or other known phenomena. UAP is often used in the same way as the more popular term UFO which stands for unidentified flying object , including sometimes being pluralized as UAPs when referring to multiple things that have been observed. However, use of UAP instead of UFO , including in official ways by US government agencies, is sometimes seen as a way of avoiding popular connotations associated with the term UFO , including the implication that they are alien spacecraft.
Still, UAP and UFO are often used interchangeably, and UAP is used by some who believe that some phenomena that have been observed are in fact extraterrestrial in origin. Interest around the term rose again in the summer of with the release of a report by the task force. Practically speaking, use of the word phenomenon as opposed to object allows for the fact that some of the phenomena that are observed or reported may not be objects at all, but instead things like weather phenomena or visual artifacts caused by the camera that captured the footage, for example.
The abbreviation UAP is used in government reports, media reports about them, and in discussion of such phenomena. Beware of anyone who tells you they know exactly what they are. Astronomers have tools, so they can share the data they collected, even if some question their claim. Similarly, we need tools to observe UAP; radar, thermal, and visual observations will be immensely helpful. We must repeat here that this is a global phenomenon.
Perhaps some, or even most, UAP events are simply classified military aircraft, or strange weather formations, or other misidentified mundane phenomena. However, there are still a number of truly puzzling cases that might be worth investigating. Of course, not all scientists need to make UAP investigation a part of their research portfolio. For those who do, discarding the taboo surrounding this phenomenon would help in developing interdisciplinary teams of motivated individuals who can begin genuine scientific inquiry.
And this is exactly what we as scientists can do to study these events.
